STEP 1. MATCHING PAIN WITH A SOUND

Simply put, you want to find the sound that most closely matches your pain.
Find a quiet place and focus on your pain; isolate it in your mind. Take your device and hold it in front of you at chest level so you can easily see the screen and adjust the settings. Select L5 and play that for a few seconds. You should be able to tell you whether that sound matches the pain you are feeling. Change the letter in the Feeling box and see which direction becomes closer to matching your pain.

Keep playing further sounds until you find the one that most closely matches your pain. When you find it you should be able to easily switch your focus from the sound to the pain and back again.

Once you have matched the sound you need to find the volume that best matches the intensity of the pain you are feeling. Raise or lower the volume until you feel it matches your pain. Play the sound for at least 5 seconds, in many cases you will find you need to lessen the sound after playing it for a period. The sound needs to match your pain, not drown it out. If your pain fades into the background when you don't concentrate on it, so should the sound.

WHEN THE SOUND AND VOLUME MATCH, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SHIFT YOUR AWARENESS FROM THE PAIN TO THE SOUND AND BACK AGAIN SEAMLESSLY AND QUITE EFFORTLESSLY.
STEP 2. DIAGNOSIS
Once you have identified the sound that matches your pain press Save.

You will then see a screen that let's you enter a diagnosis or the condition that is causing the pain. You are free not to store this information if you'd prefer.

The last field on that page lets you record the level of your pain on a 0 to 10 scale where 0 is no pain and 10 is the worst pain you can imagine. This will help you compare the results of our application with traditional methods of assessing pain.

Once you have filled in all these fields press Submit. After this your record will be saved and you'll be taken back to the home screen.

STEP 3. VIEWING YOUR HISTORY
If you have saved sounds in the app you can review them at a later time. If you press PROFILE and then open HISTORY, you will see a list of your previous readings.

It can be very helpful to play back previous readings. It can be very difficult to recall how much pain you have been in on previous occasions and the app can help you see how you have progressed. It can also give you comfort that your current level of pain is less than you have experienced in the past.
